Any current student at the University of Manchester is welcome to audition, regardless of degree programme or previous a cappella experience. We will also consider students from other universities and conservatoires, and the general public.

We audition all voice parts each year, including soprano, mezzo, alto, tenor, baritone, bass, and vocal percussion.
Typically, we ask you to prepare a short solo song and may include range checks, harmony exercises and musicianship assessments. Please check the specific requirements of your audition on our Instagram, and emails for callback rounds.
Yes, and YES!!!! Vocal percussionists should prepare a short demonstration of their beatboxing skills and may be asked to perform different grooves and styles. We are looking for clean sounds, strong timing, and precision.
No, we will provide learning tracks alongside your traditional sheet music. However, references to the sheet music will occur during rehearsals.
We typically rehearse twice per week (2 hours each), with additional rehearsals before major performances and competitions.
Absolutely. Many members are involved in other societies, ensembles, sports clubs, and academic commitments.
The A Cappella & Beatboxing Society's regular sessions (Wednesdays, 5-7pm) are open to everyone. While full attendance is not compulsory, Skylarks members are expected to keep up with the society's arrangements.
Our group usually consists of around 13-15 singers, including vocal percussion.
Any membership fees or society dues will be communicated at the start of the academic year.
Yes. We regularly compete in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA), The Open A Cappella Competition (OAC), and other events.
Participation in competitions is generally expected of all members.
The Skylarks have achieved success at ICCA competitions, including Outstanding Vocal Percussion and 2nd Place in Birmingham Regionals at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA), advancing them to national finals.
